A Stewart’s Shops customer bit into a scoop of ice cream and found a piece of metal in it.
That one complaint is why Stewart’s Shops Corp. just pulled two of its ice cream flavors off shelves in New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire.
If you keep a half-gallon of Stewart’s in your freezer, it’s worth two minutes to go check the carton right now.

What Was Recalled
Stewart’s Shops recalled two half-gallon, paperboard-carton ice cream flavors:
- Heavenly Medley, UPC 0 82086 44371 1, best by February 10, 2027.
- Vanilla-Chocolate-Strawberry, UPC 0 82086 44377 3, best by February 11, 2027.
Both were sold at Stewart’s Shops locations between July 17 and October 2, 2026.
If your carton doesn’t match those UPC codes and best-by dates, it isn’t part of this recall.
Why It Was Recalled
The reason is simple: a customer found a piece of metal inside a carton.
Stewart’s says the recall covers the “potential presence of metal” in the affected cartons. The company has not said how the metal got into the product or how many cartons may be affected.
As of the recall notice, no injuries or illnesses have been reported.
That matters, but it doesn’t mean the risk is zero. Metal fragments in food are treated seriously by the FDA because they can cause cuts, broken teeth, or more serious internal injury if swallowed.

What You Should Do
If you have either recalled flavor in your freezer:
- Stop eating it right away.
- Check the UPC code and best-by date on the carton against the ones listed above.
- Bring the carton back to any Stewart’s Shops location. The company is offering a full refund, and you do not need a receipt.

Is This Recall a Big Deal?
It’s regional, not nationwide; only stores in New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire are affected. But Stewart’s Shops is a well-known convenience and ice cream chain across that region, so a lot of households could have one of these two flavors sitting in the freezer right now.
No illnesses have been reported, which is good news. But a confirmed metal fragment found by an actual customer is a direct, physical hazard, not a theoretical one, so it’s worth checking your freezer even if you feel fine.
FAQ
How do I know if my ice cream is part of the recall?
