Move That Body… The Fun Way!

Hey friends,

This week, I want to encourage you to move your body—but let’s ditch the word “workout” for a minute and talk about something way more fun: playing!

Yep, we’re grown, but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy a good old-fashioned game. If the weather is kind to us, grab the kids, call some friends, and get a kickball game going. Or challenge the family to a race down the block. The goal? Just get outside, move around, and have a laugh while doing it.

Movement doesn’t always have to look like a gym session. Some of my favorite ways to break a sweat don’t even feel like exercise!

Have you ever played Dance Dance Revolution at an arcade? It is so much fun. If you really give it your all, you’ll be sweating and laughing in no time. It’s the perfect combo of cardio and pure joy.

When I’m walking alone, I like to challenge myself with little games. I’ll pick a tree, mailbox, or streetlight up ahead and see if I can run to it without stopping. It’s such a simple thing, but it gives me a little goal to hit and makes the walk more exciting. Try it next time you’re out—it’s a mini victory every time you hit that finish line.

And let’s not forget about trampoline parks! We used to go as a family and let me tell you… you will BURN calories! I was shocked to see I could burn up to 750 calories in an hour. That said, safety is a big deal—especially if you have joints that like to remind you how old you are. 😅 I have some arthritis in my ankles, and I definitely feel it for days after jumping, so I always recommend going during less busy times to avoid other jumpers accidentally throwing off your landing. And of course, form matters—bend those knees and protect your body.

But even if trampolines aren’t your thing, there are so many creative ways to move your body without it feeling like a chore. Hula hoop in the yard. Play freeze tag with your kids. Dance like nobody’s watching in your living room.

Whatever you choose to do, the key is this:
* Make. It. Fun.

Exercise doesn’t have to feel like punishment. In fact, the more you enjoy it, the more likely you are to keep doing it.

So let’s get playful this week. What’s something fun you can do that will get you moving?

Let’s sweat with a smile,
– Your friend in the game of life
