To Weigh or Not to Weigh?

Hey there,

How often do you step on the scale? For me, it’s almost every day. My scale lives in the bathroom, so it’s become part of my morning routine. I hop on first thing, without clothes, to get the most accurate number before food, water, or the day’s activities can mess with it.

I know weighing myself daily isn’t for everyone, but it keeps me accountable. If I went a little overboard the day before—maybe too much salty food—I’ll see that bump in water weight. It’s not always fun, but it helps me course-correct for the days ahead.

But that’s just what works for me. I know people who never weigh themselves, and I get it. Sometimes, seeing that number can be discouraging, especially if it’s not what you hoped for. For some, the “ignorance is bliss” approach feels less stressful. And then there are those who check in occasionally, just to see how things are progressing.

Here’s the thing: there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. You have to find what keeps you motivated and on track. But avoiding the scale completely? That can make it harder to measure progress. Sure, feeling the difference in your clothes is a great indicator, but having a tangible number—at least at the start and periodically—can give you valuable insight.

Just remember, weight fluctuates for all sorts of reasons: water retention, hormones, even how much sleep you got. The scale is a tool, not a judgment. As long as you keep that in perspective, it can be really helpful.

At the end of the day, the choice is yours. Do what makes sense for your journey, and keep pushing forward—scale or no scale!

You got this.

(Here is a link to the scale that I use. I have had it for many years and it has been very consistent for me.)
